Notes and Rests

the notes:  a type of provocation.  creating tension and movement toward the completion of an idea or phrase.

Rest:  cut from the noise and move from hearing to listening
from adjudication to reception 
from filtering and sorting, mentalizing, and organizing 
to making room for it all
becoming a spacious container
becoming the staff paper itself.

The rest note is an invitation to drop in.

the strike of the bell is heard
listening occurs.
the bell decrescendos
what remains is Listening
having converged in Silence
We listen in Silence
We sit as Silence

Let Listening become you.

by rest, i mean give up your racket.  
get pulled in.
Let your sound be interrupted for just a moment
let the direction of your notes take pause

Is "fun" the point?
an incidental byproduct perhaps?
not here to subvert or entertain
not here to be heard
not here for consumption or critique
Go beyond the finger pointing and look straight to the moon.

Leaders...
evoke.
encourage a deep interruption of all your noise.
listen.
know Silence.
transmit.
are quenched by the deep well of their Being.
are rest notes drawing your eyes toward the moon.
